چکیده

Ten patients with idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis were studied with right and transseptal left heart catheterization. All patients had the expected increases in subvalvular systolic gradients with isoprenaline infusion, amyl nitrite inhalation, exercise, and performance of the Valsalva manoeuvre. These stimulatory procedures were repeated after intravenous infusion of practolol (6oo or goo .ug/kg). This resulted in partial amelioration of exercise and isoprenaline-induced gradient augmentation, with no effect on resting gradients. These data suggest that practolol at doses of 6oo to 9oo .tglkg is less effective than i5o ,uglkg of propranolol, which has been reported in previous studies ofpatients with idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis to block induction ofgradients more completely.

Echocardiography in the diagnosis of idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis coexisting with pericardial effusion.

Of 89 patients with idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis who had M-mode echocardiagrams recorded, seven patients with coexisting moderate to large pericardial effusions were identified. The clinical profile, M-mode echocardiograms, and cardiac catheterization and angiocardiographic studies in two of the seven patients were analyzed. That the two entities were not associated was suggested ...

Systolic time intervals in valvular aortic stenosis and idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis.

Corrected systolic time intervals of the left ventricle: the interval between the onset of the Q wave and the first heart sound (Q-MI), isovolumic contraction time (IVCT), and left ventricular ejection time (LVET) have been measured by noninvasive techniques in 26 patients with valvular aortic stenosis and in 25 patients with idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis. The results were compared...

Epinephrine infusion in man. Standardization, normal response, and abnormal response in idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis.

on systolic time intervals in 14 normal subjects as a dose-response phenomenon. In order that we might examine the sensitivity of the test, it was applied in nine patients with idiopathic hypertrophic subaortic stenosis. Normal subjects had a characteristic response-a progressive shortening of the duration of electromechanical systole, left ventricular ejection time, and pre-ejection period. Th...

The Circulatory Response of Patients with Idiopathic Hypertrophic Subaortic Stenosis to Nitroglycerin and to the Valsalva Maneuver.

I DIOPATHIC hypertrophic subaortic stenosis, in contrast to valvular, supravalvular, or discrete subaortic stenosis, is characterized by obstruction to left ventricular ejection, which may vary from moment to moment. Since the obstruction results from the contraction of the hypertrophied muscle in the left ventricular outflow tract during systole, it was anticipated that influences that tend to...
